Experience
Typography is something new to me and I did not expect the module to be very
difficult. It was difficult for me to get used to it in the beginning since I
had no fundamentals of Typography and memorizing the terms took a lot longer
than expected, however, I was able to adapt to the change of pace and work
through the assignments. From there, I started to learn a lot about
prioritizing time and breaking down task and put it into practice while
completing the assignments. Overall I found this module interesting and fun to
explore, although, I struggled through a lot of hardship and burnout but it
was something I needed to build my resilience over what will come in the
future.
Observation
After learning Typography, I noticed that I would examine or take interests in
Typographic communication posters on Pinterest and in real life. I would take
a look at types and analyze it to pass the time, I was able to tell what kind
of font were used especially the 10 typefaces that we were given to start
with. When practicing judgement, I started to get use of analyzing errors in
my design, ask for my colleagues feedback and take into consideration of
feedbacks from other colleagues work into my work than relying solely on the
lecturer giving a one on one feedback. When working on an assignment,
consistent pace is crucial so that I can enjoy the process instead of
stressing myself out nearing the deadline.
Findings
Typography is about type, yet we are unaware of the traditions and subtleties
behind it. I think its important for design students to understand how type
works and using them to express information that connects with the
font/typographic expression to get our point across to the general public
visually. There are many ways to express creativity and being versatile in
more than one method of expression is a great skill to have.
In conclusion, I am quite satisfied with my efforts throughout the module, I
put in the effort to complete all the work needed to be done. The most
consequential part of the module is the knowledge gained from the process of
finishing up task 1 to task 3. After all of that, it all goes down to creating
good designs that are unique to ourselves in the end.
