PROJECT 2: MYTIGER POSTER

We were required to create a poster focusing on one or more United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Requirements: 

• Interpretation of TIGER: Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Efficiency and Relationship Building in achieving the 12 sustainability goals.

• Submit before 1st June 2023

• Size: 59.4cm x 84.1 cm.

• Must include rationale of 200 words, title, contact details.

SDG GOAL FOCUS: LIFE BELOW WATER

Coral reefs has been a cause for concern for many years and continues at an alarming pace. Overfishing, Pollution, Invasive Species, Transportation and Climate Change have all played a role and more than a third of all coral species are now under threat of extinction.

What is the issue?

• Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have caused an increase in global surface temperature of approximately 1°C since pre-industrial times.

• When conditions such as the temperature change, corals expel the symbiotic algae living in their tissues, responsible for their colour. A spike of 1–2°C in ocean temperatures sustained over several weeks can lead to bleaching, turning corals white>prolonged bleaching will cause massive amount of corals to die.

Why is it important?

• Coral reefs functions as protection of coastlines from storms and erosions, provide jobs for communities and create opportunity for recreation, they are also used as source of food and medicine, about half a billion people depend on reefs for food, income and protection. 

• Protects coastal line from storms.

REFLECTION:

Experience

I struggled a lot in terms of this project since my comprehension of Adobe Illustrator wasn't as great. I treated Adobe Illustrator like a drawing apps like Procreate which was pretty much a huge mistake. Even though, I still went with the idea and tried my best to create something from it by using the brush tools and gradient layers, etc. It was enjoyable although I was not so satisfied with the outcome as much due to my own mistake of choosing a not so suitable color scheme.

Observation

I made a lot of mistakes in Project 2, for example, biting off more than I can chew, treating the Ai as a drawing app and finally placing/not placing in elements and color schemes that does not give a sense of depth to the poster.

Findings

I found that syncing the SDG Goals and designing a poster using specific goals can be challenging, since the goals itself have more than one subtopic which could confuse us all the way as we create the poster, that is why a clear direction and narrowing the goal into smaller versions could help generate ideas that could be used to create the poster. I have also realized that I have yet to understand more Ai tools yet, which have become a great obstacle to me in creating the poster. In conclusion, it was enjoyable research to delve in, however, the execution could've been done better which I will carry forward for the next project.
