Students are required to produce stop motion by a given theme. Voice-over,
sound effects and music can be used to tell a compelling story. The story
should have no more than 2 characters/locations and only 1 event in less than
15 shots. For this project we were required to team up with one person to make
it happen so I teamed up with a close friend of mine, Han.

2. Finalised Idea and Synopsis
We decided to proceed with the second idea focusing on the use of CFC and
its effect on the thinning of ozone layers.
Title: A Silent Menace
Synopsis:
In a world not too dissimilar from our own, the ozone layer, Earth's protective shield against harmful UV rays, is under an unforeseen threat. Meet (character name), an ordinary man with an extraordinary penchant for cutting corners and choosing low-quality, low-rated household items. Unbeknownst to him, his seemingly harmless choices unleash a silent menace that threatens the very fabric of life on Earth. As he continued his oblivious journey through daily life, his actions contributed to the release of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) into the atmosphere. Little does he know these invisible culprits mount an assault on the ozone layer, causing it to thin at an alarming rate. With the protective shield weakened, the once-tamed sun becomes a merciless force, unleashing deadly UV rays upon the suspecting inhabitant of earth.
3. Inspirations
We wanted to make something that had a small characteristic of
gore, so we stumbled upon a video by Lee Hardcastle called 'The
Thing' that was basically inspired by the character: Pingu and a
parasitic alien invasion. These are some of the inspirations while
we slowly made plans for the storyboard. We were also inspired to
use clay as the character, since that was the cheapest we could
find.
Unfortunately, we didn't record ourselves in making the props because we
felt no reason to record it and we were also half-dead trying to finish
work during that time. It took us about 3 days to try and finish
our filming within the studio using the stop-motion app.
-We divided the scenes by filming the one with our character and then
using the last one to film the ozone layer.
-Our work had to be improvised from the storyboard since there were a
few scenes that might drag our work too long and boring, so we had a
talk as we go through each scenes on how we can improvise it.

Editing
For the editing part, my partner and I split our work, she worked on
compiling the work and she happened to compile it in After Effects
while I added sound effects, music and audio in Premiere Pro. I
began to look for YouTube links to download for the sound effects
and I compiled them in an Excel sheet.
I tried to incorporate the slow foreboding build up for the video up
until the last, I tried my best to build up the suspense from the
characters normal daily routine could change or later the state of
the ozone layer. I also added Luminescent effect for the climax of
the story, turning it red to present the the world had already
fallen and the ozone layer have been terribly effected.

REFLECTION
In this project, it took so much of our mental and physical strength to keep going. I couldn't remember how many times my back aches so much from creating the props which took about 2-3 days. However, the experience was a memorable one, I was able to laugh and struggle with my partner as we continued on with the project. Our schedule was similar so finding time for us to do our work was quite easy, we took our time creating the scenes. In my opinion, creating stop motion video was quite a unique and fun experience, despite the prolonged struggles and backpain, we were finally finished with the assignment.
I am satisfied with the end result of our video, although there were a lot of improvement necessary, I'm happy with what we produced as a team amongst the otehr hurdles we faced in other modules. All of these works were able to get done because I had a good trust with my partner and our compromise of situations made it easy to make amendments and communicate throughout the project. So I'm quite grateful that I had the chance to team up with a chillback partner.
