FINAL REFLECTION:

  • WHAT HAVE I LEARNT FROM THIS MODULE?
I have learnt a lot from this module, from implementing each design in the projects to understanding the technical aspect of designs. The module have become a great platform for me to try various different mediums from traditional mediums to digital, the sense of freedom in choosing the type of medium becomes a great start for me in my journey to find my own creative art style that suits me the most. On every project, implementing design principles and the message had become a habit, instead of drawing without a proper direction. Furthermore, the assignments have given me the opportunity to strengthen my skills in breaking down components/elements of design to further analyze it for inspiration.

  • WHAT DID I ENJOY THE MOST?
I enjoyed the freedom of materials that can be used to create our designs into real life be it in 3-Dimensional or 2-Dimensional, the sense of freedom, gives me the opportunity to want to try various mediums and art style to create my finalize design. I also enjoyed how each projects are dedicated into expressing our perspective or emotions of how we see certain things, it was truly an enjoyable journey to discover who I am especially in the Self-Portrait project.

  • WHAT DID I NOT ENJOY THE MOST?
To be honest, I enjoyed all the projects given due to its interesting nature, however, I did not enjoy the fact that the time given for each assignments were too short, I feel that I have not given my all in each project due to the time constraint in this short semester. The short semester becomes an obstacle for me to improve in digital drawing because I did not have enough time to fully explore the settings to improve my design more.

  • WHAT HAVE I LEARNT ABOUT MYSELF THROUGH THIS MODULE?
Throughout this module I have learnt that I need to push beyond my capabilities to become better in the field of design. I have learned to embrace my weakness and understand what I need to improve on in order to achieve my goals. The self-portrait project have been nothing but a roller-coaster of emotions from the memories that were brought back, the nostalgic feeling have made the journey of my life clearer, I knew what I wanted to achieve and to become grateful for the family and friends who stood beside me throughout my journey becomes the pillar of support I needed to keep pursuing my goals.

  • WHAT HAS CHANGED AND WHAT HAS NOT IN MY LEARNING JOURNEY?
Considering myself who struggles with low self-esteem, I have always doubted my design and held high expectations for myself. When I am unable to accomplish the standards I have set for myself, my negative thoughts would always take a toll on my own confidence making me doubt my whole progression and what I should've done. The module have helped elevated some of myself doubts and that it is okay to make mistakes. Sir Charles have created an environment that gives everyone the opportunity to display their designs and admire the confidence and the courage of other students who were able to show their design with great confidence. That has given me some strength to try and show my designs as well.

  • WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED IN THIS MODULE?
The design principles module is very open in terms of execution, allowing us to use any medium and exhibit any art style, which gave us more freedom to explore our own individual art styles. However, because art is subjective, this made it difficult for me to determine what constitutes good design or not. More specifically, the expected standards for the design, since each student has their own unique style. I still didn't fully understand the expectations for the projects completed for this module, and I would have preferred more direction and certainty in that regard.
